Saint-Gobain: stock management for windshield fitters

Sekurit Service, a Saint-Gobain subsidiary, supplies windshield fitters. With my team, we designed a platform where fitters track their stock of consumables, place orders and earn loyalty points.

The project in detail

Context

A 3-month project with Sekurit Service, a Saint-Gobain subsidiary. The platform is a Sekurit Service tool for its windshield fitter customers, who often run their own business.

Problem: Fitters complained that they weren't well informed about their stock of consumables. Yet they had to manage it themselves and order at the right time.

Key decision

Connect stock management to ordering. Fitters check their stock before buying, and the cart flags what they already have. A loyalty program encourages them to come back to the platform.

Approach

  1. A large UX Research phase, with field interviews.
  2. A service blueprint to map the journey and its pain points.
  3. Designing services tailored to fitters: stock check before purchase, inventory, stock notifications, loyalty program.
  4. Many rounds of user testing to validate the solution.
User journey map: stages, touchpoints, actions, emotions, pain points and opportunities, from the initial need to receiving the order.
The user journey map, from the initial need to receiving the order.
User flow of the fitter's journey: buying windshields on the Sekurit Service website, checking stock, inventory form, notifications, loyalty program (Silver, Gold, Diamond tiers) and quarterly report exported as a PDF.
The fitter's journey: from purchase to stock management, through to loyalty and a report for their accountant.

Database schema of the platform: Users, Orders, OrderDetails, Stocks, Products, Categories, Cart, Wishlist and Payment tables, linked together.
The technical architecture: data tables and their relationships, from product to payment.

What it shows

I start from the field before drawing a screen. The interviews and the service blueprint put the solution where the problem actually was: information about stock.

Learnings

This project taught me that an interface problem is often a service problem. Mapping the whole journey reveals pain points that a single screen doesn't show.
